From the beginning this book takes off with a bank robbery, high speed chase and it never stops. When you get to chapter 2 you think hum, what and you have to reread it to make sure you just read what you read. Then you say I be damned, you have to laugh at the dry humor and continual on with your reading.

You have thieves and con artist, chases, things being blown up, people flying through the air, bad guys but are all of them truly bad? You are good guy but are they all truly good? I am so confused or am I? Hum guess you will have to read to find out.

Kate is FBI and after her man, she has chased him, put him behind bars, and chasing him again or she is? Kate has spent a lifetime putting bad guys away with a little, and sometimes a lot of help from her friends. She running against the clock to find a Chinese artifact, but what they finds will blow every one’s mind.

Nicolas is a thief and con artist who has been caught because of his ego, he changes names more than most people change clothes. The names he chooses might sound familiar. I found I kept thinking where have I heard that name before. Low and behold it doesn’t take long to work that one out. Nick escapes and is on the run or is he? Can Nick turn his life around and become straight? Maybe Kate is the women to make this happen.

The characters in this book are so wonderful you have Boyd, Willie, Jake, Walter, Clay, Joe and a lot more wonderful people that will make you smile, chuckle and laugh. Each one are so different from the other but when they come together they work like well-oiled machines. The bad guys are very bad, you will find yourself cheering for Kate and Nick to take them down.

The authors has taken you to a world that we have never seen and most of us do not want to. The style of writing flows so easy, they will have you on the edge of your seat just waiting to see what happens next. The humor is wonderful, they will make you chuckle and at times make you laugh. The suspense is outstanding, leaves you wondering what these two will do next.

I am a humor person, from the beginning of this book I was hooked, the humor kept me hooked. This book has you laughing not only with the characters but at them as well. The little spats Kate and Nick have kept it interesting. This isn’t a book for male or female but both sex, I like that. It is a book my husband will enjoy reading and I am sure he will. I like the fact that both Kate and Nick are strong characters. They both might try to call the shots but they do not, they work together as a team. I wonder if at some point they might hook up. When it came to where or not I found this book believable, I was on the fence. Then I thought about today’s government, what they hide and keep from us. After thinking I have found I find this book believable, it could happen and it might have already happen in some way or fashion.

I will be going to take a look not only at the first book of this series but other books these authors have written. I cannot wait for the next book to come out.

The beginning of a book to me is the most important, it must grab the reader when they are at their most vunerable. You know the time when you've finished an outstanding book and dread the thought of having to move on to something you are not quite sure will be as good. This is the book! Gripping from page one, to the last word. This book is the Maxwell House of novels. This is my first review and I'm no writer so bear with me. I really don't know what to say but that I loved this book. It was not even a genre I ever read! That is what shocked me, that I could be so interested in a book that was not my normal read.
All I can say is it was very interesting historically, and very exciting. I hope you'll try it.
I loved this book. It was refreshing and interesting all in one. Unfortunately this book sat on my shelf for over a year after I purchased before I found this out. I just wasn't ready for a Clive Cussler period peice. I thought I was only interested in modern day, technologically advanced, gadgets up the yingyang type of book. I was quickly plunged into a new experience as I enjoyed the familiar style of storytelling the Cussler has written for years, but yet the refreshing taste of a story that WASN'T so addicted to modern technolgy. Albeit some of the plot was a little farfetched, hey-it is supposed to make you immersed and interested, not make sense all the time right? All in all a great read and I look forward to the next book in this new series.
The book is the first in the “Isaac Bell” series. It is an historical novel which takes us back to 1906. Isaac Bell is a brilliant detective “chasing” an equally brilliant sociopath who murders everyone who has the misfortune of being at banks when he comes to rob them. I very much enjoyed this novel and having the author describe how detectives solved crimes in those days was a real plus. I definitely plan to continue with this series and will no doubt also check out this author’s other series.
Isaac Bell, a new old time hero for Cussler and his co-author team. They just know how to keep the story flowing and exciting. Always with the boy's toys even back in 1906. Planning on reading more Isaac Bell adventures.

Isaac Bell and the Van Dorn detective agency truly “never give up”. Suspenseful, action packed intro to Isaac Bell, his wife Marion and the famed Van Dorn detectives. Wonderful detail and historical framing of investigation and pursuit of a ruthless killer.
This was my second Cussler book. I liked The Gangster and I also liked this one. Cussler tells a good tale based on some historical settings that are interesting and engaging. The San Francisco earthquake and fire of 1906 provides an interesting backdrop and since this is the first of the series, explains how our hero met his femme fatale (who also appears in The Gangster). Very engaging reading and one learns some historical facts and contexts along the way. Here's a question that he poses in the first chapter how in the heck could a TRAIN be found in the middle of Flathead Lake in Montana?
